Friends of Child Study Center
Friends of Child Study Center at San Francisco State University is a parent initiative created to save this valuable institution for our own children and all future students.
Recently in mid-February, we learned that the CSC has been cut from the University budget for the 2006-2007 academic year. It is heartbreaking to those of us who have been affiliated with the Center to lose a program, which is a model for early childhood education as well as a community preschool. The Center provides approximately 800-900 University students and faculty with unique opportunities in research, observation and training every year. Now in its 36th year of operation it has trained innumerable students who have gone on to careers working with children at schools, various child care institutions, community programs (like Head Start), and in policy (Department of Children and Family Services).
The need for qualified early childhood educators is now even greater as San Francisco institutes "Preschool for All", a ballot measure passed in 2004 which will provide high-quality preschool education to all 4-year olds in the city. We feel very strongly that model programs training young adults to work with, educate and grow young children should be supported and not cut.
We need your support. We aim to raise enough funds to secure another year for the Child Study Center and during that time to grow a much-needed endowment with which the CSC will be sustainable. We ask for your fiscal support as well as help identifying those who may be able to support us in our cause. We believe community support for the CSC runs wide and deep and it is with your help that we hope to obtain these goals.
